Bowhead whale are baleen whales. They are one of the longest living mammals on the earth. They are the fifth largest mammal in the world. Bowhead whales earned their name after it's huge bow shaped mouth. Their mouth that also makes it look like smiling! They filter their food  through  baleen by opening their mouth. They have a dark body with white chin. Bowhead Whale do not have dorsal fin. They have extremely large head and stocky body.  It is only the baleen whale endemic to the Arctic and Sub- Artic water. Bowhead Whale are most adapted to live in icy water. sound is critical to the survival of Bowhead Whales. They can grow up to 60ft in length and weight up to 100 tons. They spent most of their day with opening their mouths. They can swim at the birth.  They can hold their breath 40 minutes. They also known as the have longest lifespan of all marine mammals. They can swim depth up to 500ft (155m). The Bowhead Whale's large thick skull help them to break  8 inches thick ice.
