This species if found in seagrasses shallow water off of Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia. They live maximum depth of 10 m. They mainly feed on shrimps, copepods and crustaceans. Barbour's seahorses have sharp eyes, long snout and double cheek spines. They range in color from white to yellow and greenish gray to light brown sometimes with reddish brown spots. The male one carrying eggs before give birth to the young. The female one deposits her eggs into the males brood pouch.
